A Letter from our 2019/2020 President
Physicians Who Care is a local organization owned and run exclusively by local doctors to serve our local patient population. We have followed this mission since our founding in 1988. We are not affiliated or associated with any other outside organizations. We are the only physician non-profit organization in the United States that can make that claim.
Physicians Who Care runs several local programs to serve the local community. During the autumn, we have a Senior Health Fair to provide access and patient education to the people of Etowah and surrounding counties. In December, we will do holiday shopping with some underprivileged children in our area. During the spring, our 29th annual Physicians Who Care 5K will raise funds for the Etowah County Cancer Foundation and encourage physical activity and our A-Day sports physicals will provide no cost preparticipation exams and screening to local student athletes. 2020 will also bring our involvement in support of the Remote Area Medical (RAM clinic) which will be the first event of its kind in Alabama to provide medical, dental and vision care to people who would otherwise not have access.
We strive to advocate for our patients and to help them navigate outside forces in health care. Because we have the training and experience, we can help people negotiate problems with access, private and government insurance and regulators. We believe that medical decisions should be made by patients and providers but do understand that these outside influences are often a factor. We can be a valuable defense and resource for patients to keep the medical decision making in the hands of them and their doctors.
Physicians Who Care is located inside the Chamber of Commerce building. From this location we can maintain a presence in our community and run our programs including our referral line to help people find local health care providers. This office also provides a location for the Etowah County Medical Society
Information about our events, programs, important news in medicine and patient education is available at www.physicianswho.care. Our 2019-20 directory is accessible on the website and physical copies are available through our office. Information about our organization and our activities can also be found at www.facebook.com/physicianswhocare/ .
Our goals are to make the public aware of third-party influences that impact their medical care. Physicians Who Care connects them with physicians who will act on their behalf, and to help patients to access quality care in our area.
Sincerely,
Matt Lovato, M.D.
President
